Torres to be swapped for Destro : Chelsea and Roma are in talks over a
swap deal that would see Fernando Torres move to the Serie A club and
Mattia Destro arrive at Stamford Bridge.
The Times claims an exclusive and reports that the Blues would sign
the £20m-rated Italy striker with Torres heading in the opposite
direction on a season-long loan. Roma officials have been in London to
thrash out a deal with Chelsea keen on recruiting a player who would
provide competition for Diego Costa and Didier Drogba up front.
Paper Round's view : Torres has been given more than enough time at
Chelsea to prove himself and justify that £50m price tag, but he has
not succeeded in doing so.
Clearly, it's time for pastures new, both for Chelsea, who need to cut
their losses, and for the player himself, who needs to reignite his
career.
Roma seems to be as good a place as any to do that.
And if Chelsea can bring in an exciting young prospect such as Destro
in a deal to offload Torres, all the better.
